News: 7/1/2008: Core Medical Training – August 2008 Entry
• Applications for August 2008 entry to Core Medical Training in East Midlands Deanery (South) opened today on NHS Jobs.
• We are advertising to appoint at least 30 trainees at CT1 level in Core Medical Training for 2 year training rotations
• We do not currently propose any appointments at CT2 level, nor as FTSTA’s

• Please note that application will involve completion of the standard NHS Jobs application form and of a supplementary form devised by the Specialty School of Medicine which asks for details of clinical experience and reasons for application to our programmes
• Applications which do not provide both forms completed will not be considered for interview
• Please note that if you wish to exclude any previous posts from the maximum clinical experience stated in the national person specification (<= 12 months at SHO/ST1 level) then you will need to justify this exclusion in detail on the application forms (whether in the UK or overseas, and whether or not formally ‘educationally approved’), otherwise you may be considered ineligible for appointment on the basis of person specification

• Applications for August 2008 entry to Acute Care Common Stem (ACCS) – Acute Medicine in East Midlands Deanery (South) opened today on NHS Jobs.
• We are advertising to appoint at least 3 trainees at CT1 level in ACCS-Acute Medicine for 2 year training rotations

News: 10/11/2008: Core Medical Training - August 2009 Entry
• In 2009 there will
be a single national application process for Core Medical Training in
• Applications will take place as a single electronic application form via a robust internet portal from 5th January 2009. You will be able to rank your preferences for training programmes in medicine in 4 Units of Allocation (UoA – typically a Deanery or part of a Deanery).
• The web based application service will be based on www.CMTrecruitment.org.uk (site not live a time of updating this page)
• Details will also appear on www.MMC.nhs.uk and advert is expected for 15th December 2008.
• All eligible candidates will be considered for interview in their first and second choice of UoA.
• Interviews in East Midlands South are scheduled for week commencing 23rd March 2009.
• All candidates will be required to sit an electronic knowledge-based test (as a pilot) on Saturday 21st February 2009 (the same test used for all GP applicants).
• If you are planning to apply for Core Medical Training in 2009 please put these dates in your diary now – don’t book your skiing trip to clash!

• A many of ST3+ training opportunities for 2009 will be filled by ‘run-through’ from ST2 Core Medical Training (trainees appointed in August 2007 prior to uncoupling)
• There may be a few unfilled ST3+ training posts which will be advertised nationally in January
• We will not know the details of which posts are available until the ST2 to ST3 allocation process is completed in December 2008

• Interviews in East Midlands South are being held in the week commencing 23rd March 2009.
• We began to make offers in the week commencing 30th March 2009 but in common with many other deaneries around the country a large number of posts are currently ‘held’ rather than accepted. Guidelines for accepting or holding offers are detailed on the national recruitment website
• Round 2 will commence soon – see the National CMTrecruitment site for details
• Our individual posts and rotations are allocated by ranking based on your overall assessment score in application and interview.
• Successful candidates will be asked to rank all of our CMT rotations after acceptance of a post in CMT within the School - but a particular post or rotation cannot be guaranteed before appointment.

• A majority of ST3+ training opportunities for 2009 will be filled by ‘run-through’ from ST2 Core Medical Training (trainees appointed in August 2007 prior to uncoupling)
• A few posts are currently open for application in acute medicine, geriatric medicine, clinical oncology, medical oncology and dermatology
• A post in immunology will be recruited via the national application process
• We expect one further post in rheumatology may become available in the coming months

• ACCS CT1 posts (3
in ACCS-Acute Medicine) were advertised in December 2009 via the deanery
website and interviewed on 18th January 2010

• Recruitment to ACF
posts opened 2 November 2009 with a deadline for applications on 4 December
2009. Interviews and offers will take place in January 2010 – at least one ACF
post will be available linked to clinical training in Core Medical Training
from August 2010.
• ST3+ Recruitment
will take place from March/April onwards – full details are still awaited
• National
application coordinated via RCP is planned for – cardiology, gastroenterology,
geriatrics, renal medicine and diabetes / endocrinology. Applications open
26/2/2010 via national portal ( http:/www.st3recruitment.org.uk ) & national guidance but local interviews,
2 applications per specialty allowed, some applicant-self assessment,
deanery-lead long-listing, some clinician short-listing, local interviews 29/4/2010
to 17/5/2010 & offers completed by 26/5/2010. National clearing will be
undertaken if necessary.
• Other ST3+
specialties have individual arrangements – but a majority will have a single
national application (organised by a lead deanery) with local shortlisting and
interview.
